Why Bayonetta is the STANdard of video game (A review)

History of the icon

-To start off "Bayonetta" released October 29,2009 in japan has generationally been looked back as as of of the greatest products not only of its time but in gaming history. The idea was rarely every done before for its time. A strong female lead who's love interest was not a significant part of the game. "Bayonetta has been recognized as a icon throughout gaming history, with her as a character being noted as the "Gold standard" for female video game leads.

Don't get me started on the soundtrack

- Unforgettable tracks such as the remastered "Fly me to the moon" loop that plays over battle sequences is only the cherry on top of the amazing gameplay that is featured in the game. Sung by Helena Nogurrera, her voice captivated the strong and empowering essence of Bayonetta as a character and the story she has to tell/

THE PLOT

- One of the best plots in video game history in my opinion, has to go to this title. What makes this game so unique is that we are learning the plot with Bayonetta herself as she wakes up from a slumber with no memory. It is only through chapters and chpaters of fighting the undead angles that have been cursed upon her do we know the true reason to why she was awoken from the bottom of a lake. Not only is the plot amazing and captivating but the side characters make it all work the exploring. Rodin, my personal favorite is the shopkeeper of the video game offering you upgrades and new weapons. His sarcastic and vulgar tone and dialouge only adds to the adult humor as well as motiving not only Bayonetta but the player themselves . As we are taken through the world of Vigrid, a fictional city in Europe, we meet many more of the other umbra witches which are revealed to be from the same origins as Bayonetta. Looking for answers to why Bayonetta was banished from her own people as well as among humans , is a task players are met with while also killing ancient guardians in seemingly provactive ways.

Why this is such and iconic part of gaming history-

During this era of gaming, it was very rare to see a female that was not reliant on a man, or even a strong female lead in general. I cannot mention iconic female leads without mentioning icons like Lara Croft which paved the way for strong female leads. What they both have in common is that their chracter designs both obviously were designed to appeal to the male audience, however the fans of both titles are mainly those who view that as empowerment and show how the typical "girly girl" can be just as strong or even stronger than their male counter parts. Bayonetta is a very unique character in many ways. Her captivating British accent, her love for guns, and her cocky but somehow humble attitude had made her one of the most iconic female leads of gaming history. One of the main reasons why when people think of strong female leads, Bayonetta comes to mind is due to her confidence. While other females in games are written to be more to themselves when it comes to their confidence and what they stand for, Bayonetta is the loudest of them all. She is both a villian and a hero as she has done some minor things like slaughter ancient angles, murder someones father (not on purpose), and cause major destruction of both after life's, heaven, hell, the human present and every universe in between, she is still lovable and "somewhat" a good person as she is always showing loyalty to those who show her love and respect. Even if she may not remember them, Bayonetta still protects those she cares about, which is why I feel everyone loves her so much.

Summary-

Bayonetta is one of the most iconic releases of gaming history ever to date. The strong female lead, the lovable side characters, over the top gameplay, and empowering message, are what make fans from 2009 still claim this title as their favorite. If you or a loved one has a passion for high heel guns, slaughtering evil in both after lives, or having lolipops regenerate your heath after taking an axe to the face from a 5,000,000 year old demon, Bayonetta is the game for you! On a more serious note, this game has almost shaped me into the person I am today. Shining with confidence while also fighting for what you believe is one of the main messages of this release. Being able to have such a strong lead, a breathtaking world, and a captivating story, is one of the most iconic things to come out of 2009. If you are thinking of playing this title, I would recommend preparing for your standards of gaming to be set so high you will never find any other game enjoyable.
